«Helvetia Bodenwichse» tin · floor polish

A round metal tin with a slip lid in orange and blue: «HELVETIA — 1a. Hochglanz-Bodenwichse mit Bienenwachs» (high-gloss floor polish with beeswax), and around the side «für Parquet und Linoleum» with a radiating sun device.

The lid carries the brand in a black bar with the product line beneath. All round runs the lettering in blue capitals on orange, next to it the radiating sun — the image for the shine the stuff was supposed to give. Pure typography, no photograph: advertising as it was before floors could be photographed.

Slip lid, no hinge — it sits snugly and lifts off. Whether there is still wax inside is not shown in the photographs; what is being sold is the tin, not the contents.

There is no photograph with a tape measure for this tin. It is about the size of a large shoe-polish tin. I will measure it on request.

Used. Tin round and holding its shape, lid sits. Paint rubbed at the edges, scratches and tarnish on the base and lid rim. No rust-through.
