Au milieu des années cinquante, une poignée de communes de la banlieue encore rurale de Los Angeles était à la pointe de la scène custom. Au centre : James Potter, photographe professionnel indépendant, un Rolleiflex à la main. Kustomland réunit ses prises de vue de 1955 à 1959.

Ce qui porte le livre

Thom Taylor, lui-même designer automobile, a resserré la matière sur une vingtaine de customs — du plus sage au plus radical — et a écrit l'histoire de leurs propriétaires et constructeurs. Des chapitres à part sont consacrés au peintre custom Larry Watson, au club Renegades et à Potter lui-même.
