Thom Taylor, MBI · Rolleiflex photographs from Lynwood, Compton, Bellflower, Lakewood and North Long Beach
Item no. 100-967-000
In the mid-1950s a handful of communities in what was still suburban Los Angeles stood at the vanguard of the custom car scene. At the centre of it was James Potter, a freelance professional photographer with a Rolleiflex. Kustomland gathers his pictures from 1955 to 1959.
Thom Taylor, himself a car designer, narrowed the material down to some two dozen customs — mild to radical — and wrote the histories of their owners and builders. Separate features cover the custom painter Larry Watson, the Renegades car club and Potter himself.
Out of print. Three used offers ran between £72 and £150, median £100.
Used, boards clean, block tight, no markings.
