Hand extinguishers of this kind were single-use devices for the kitchen, workshop and car: cap off, scatter the powder over the fire, done. The label promises readiness «at any time» and explains step by step how to take the device off the wall. The tube is sheet metal, the closure at the top is brass.

This piece belongs on a shelf, not on a wall. An extinguisher of this age meets no current standard, and nobody knows whether the powder still works — probably not. Anyone needing working fire equipment should buy new. Anyone who likes the typography and the deep red of those years has a fine piece of Swiss advertising history.
