Description

A hand lemon squeezer: the resting bird forms the handle, with the hinged pressing arm above it. Half a fruit goes in between, and underneath the juice runs along a fluted channel to the spout at the tail end.

The marks

Two marks are struck into the underside: a maker's mark — an «M» in a cloud-shaped cartouche — and the stamp «D.R.P.» for Deutsches Reichspatent, a German patent mark used until 1945. The piece therefore predates that.

Material

Not brass. The squeezer is cast in a light-coloured metal, worn bright on the raised edges and darkened in the recesses. Which alloy exactly cannot be said without testing.
