Description

Ceramic wall mask in deep black: closed eyes, red lips, a white-and-red blossom at the ear and a broad gilt collar. Above the forehead a fan of hair with a gold band.

A piece of period history

Masks like this belong to Europe's fifties wave of exotica — the same years when exotica records played and tiki bars opened. It is a fantasy, not an ethnographic object, and as such it belongs in this shop.
