What the Vitra miniatures are

Since 1992 the Vitra Design Museum has issued furniture classics at 1:6 — not as toys but as faithful study objects: same material feel, same proportions, real upholstery. Each is made by hand and delivered with plywood box and description.

The original

Aarnio's Ball Chair was the chair that sums up the sixties: a sphere with an opening, in which you sat as in a room of your own. It appeared in films, in magazines and in every idea of what the future looked like.
