Weathered ancestor figure with openwork body

A heavily weathered wooden figure: tall head with a band-like crest, below it a body made entirely of pierced scrollwork. The wood is washed out, the grain stands open, a drying crack runs through the base.

This figure follows no Marquesan canon — the ornament points rather towards the Indonesian-Javanese region. Without provenance or signature the age cannot be determined. The weathering is genuine and not artificially produced; what it tells us remains open. Sold as what it is: a piece of real character, origin undetermined.

Eroded, with cracks and losses along the edges — precisely what gives it its appeal. Stands firmly.
