Magnesyn Compass from Vampire «J-1121»

Magnesyn remote-indicating compass (Bendix/Pioneer, Teterboro USA, serial A517) from the Swiss Air Force jet De Havilland Vampire FB.6 J-1121 — the original Swiss Army inspection tag on the unit proves it: «Kompass-Anzeige, N-515.108, from J-1121». Forty years of service, documented to the day of the auction.

What does it do?

Shows the pilot the heading. A transmitter far away from engine and electrics senses the earth's magnetic field; this cockpit indicator turns it into a compass reading — transmitted remotely via the Magnesyn system, so the compass doesn't have to lie next to metal and current.
