Carved wooden tiki column · «THAI» on the end

A cylindrical column of dark hardwood, carved over its full height with tiki faces and scrollwork. Both ends are cut flat, and one of them is incised «THAI».

The carving runs all the way round — there is no plain back to turn to the wall. Faces, brow ridges and bands interlock, the wood is dark and dense, the cut edges have stayed crisp. With both ends flat, the column stands upright and lies down equally well.

The incised mark «THAI» points to Thailand. Nothing more is documented: no workshop, no date, no signature. Thai carvings in the tiki idiom are export work — made by hand, but not part of a Polynesian tradition. That is no drawback; you should simply know it.

Good. A fine drying crack runs across one end — usual in solid wood and of no consequence to its strength. The carving is complete, nothing broken out. Matt surface, no varnish.
