Description

A tiki in light wood, 20 centimetres tall: angularly carved, with heavy brows, a broad nose and a row of bared teeth across the full width.

About the making

The carving works with flat facets instead of rounded transitions — you see every stroke of the adze, and that is exactly what gives the face its hardness. The headdress above is set off as a two-part crown, the teeth are freed individually. The wood is light and fresh, the grain runs vertically through the figure.

About the origin

Not documented: no signature, no label, no date. The light, untreated wood suggests a more recent piece — old ones have darkened or been stained. Anyone who likes the angular, fresh cut gets a good one here; anyone looking for patina does not.
