Description

A squat tiki figure in red-brown hardwood, 25 centimetres tall. The eyes are cut as deep arcs that turn the gaze inward; below them a broad mouth, the arms bent across the belly.

The work

A different temperament from its slimmer sister figure: this one is broader and heavier, the head set low between the shoulders, the forms kept rounder. The arcs above the eyes are drawn with a gouge and run out cleanly. This piece too is worked from a single block, base included.

Placing it

As with the smaller figure: no signature, no workshop, no date. Handwork for export, well made. Set up together the two make a pair that differs in size and character — but they are sold separately.

Condition

Good. Complete, no breaks, no cracks. The surface has gone matt and is slightly lighter at the edges. The base shows standing marks underneath. Stands securely.
