Description

A standing tiki figure in red-brown hardwood, 19 centimetres tall: above the face a feathered headdress fans out, the eyes are set with pale inlays, the arms rest across the body.

The work

The figure is worked from a single piece, headdress and base included. The wood is dense and polished dark, so the fibres light up in raking light. The fanned crest is the most demanding part — each point cut free without a single break. On a broad foot the figure stands by itself.

Placing it

Origin and workshop are not documented. Figures like this were made in quantity for hotels, bars and travellers — cleanly executed handwork, but not ritual objects. If you like the form, this is a good one; if you need provenance, you will not find it here.
