Tiki pendant «Carved by Bob Ho» · choose your colour

Small tiki pendants in resin on black leather cord, each still carrying the carver's paper tag: «Carved by Bob Ho · tikihana.com». Seven are available in four colours — choose colour and quantity; the price is per pendant.

Tiki Hana is the workshop of Bob Ho, whose carvings have a name in the tiki scene. Larger pieces of his — wall masks, standing figures — are already in the shop. These pendants are the small format.

Both are true. The master is carved, a mould taken from it, and the piece cast in resin; each one is then dyed by hand with the recessed lines picked out in black. That is how the tiki scene works for small parts almost throughout: a pendant this size in wood would be too fragile across the narrow sections, and the drilling for the cord would tear out. Resin is tough, keeps the edges crisp and takes colour evenly.

Four tones to choose from: turquoise and dusty blue twice each, violet twice — one of them darker, towards aubergine — and coral once. The coral one breaks the pattern: it is formed flatter and wider than the cylindrical others, more figure than column. If you want it, do not think too long — there is only one.

Unworn, tag attached. Colours are strong, the lines cleanly picked out, the cords unused and supple. Because the dyeing is done by hand, every piece differs slightly from the next — in the saturation of the tone and in how deep the black sits in the lines. That is intended and not a fault. Resin does not mind damp but dislikes constant direct sun.
