Description

A rectangular serving tray with a chromed frame and a red glass insert printed with a fine grid pattern. Around 47 × 30 cm, with two attached tubular handles.

What makes it

The frame is folded from angle section, cleanly mitred at the corners, the handles are bent tubes and riveted on. The insert is glass, not metal: backed in red from below and printed with an irregular grid of lines and rectangles — a pattern that turned up on laminate and curtains alike in the fifties and sixties.

About using it

Glass means: wipeable and unbothered by stains, but it will not take a knock on the edge. The tray is big enough for four glasses and a bottle.

Measured

Frame around 47 cm long and 30 cm wide, around 50 cm including the handles. Read off the tape; the tape lies alongside it in the second photograph.
