A chromed Swissair ashtray with a Boeing 747 mounted on a round base.

What it was

A promotional gift from the jumbo era, so from 1971 onwards. The larger and more elaborate of the two pieces in this collection — with the aircraft that stood for Swissair's move into the top rank. Until the grounding of 2001 Swissair was a piece of how Switzerland saw itself. What is left of it is collected today by people who still remember the cross on the tail — prices for good material have been rising for years.
