The real aircraft

Balair was Swissair's charter subsidiary and flew aircraft closely modelled on the house colours. The DC-10, with its engine in the fin, defined the look of long-haul traffic in the seventies and eighties. Until the grounding of 2001 Swissair was a piece of how Switzerland saw itself. What is left of it is collected today by people who still remember the cross on the tail — prices for good material have been rising for years.

About the model

1:200 is the standard scale for airliner collectors: big enough for detail, small enough for the shelf. These models were built in small runs for the collectors' market, not as toys.
