Rat Fink «Surf all Day» night light · with original box

A night light from the Rat Fink collection: Rat Fink surfing a green wave that lights up from inside, the base shaped as a tree trunk with the words «Surf all Day». The original box is included.

On the base it says: «Rat Fink name and device are trademarks of Ed 'Big Daddy' Roth ©2007 · Lic. Dist. MOONEYES». That is licensed merchandise, distributed by Mooneyes — the house that has been supplying kustom culture with accessories since the fifties. Ed «Big Daddy» Roth invented Rat Fink in the early sixties as the counter-image to Mickey Mouse: greasy, shaggy, with flies around his head. The figure became the emblem of a whole scene.

The wave is cast in translucent resin — plug the cable in and it glows from within, throwing green light on the wall while Rat Fink sits on it in silhouette. Intended as a night light, it works just as well as an object: even unplugged, the scene stands on its own.

The box shows the same motif as a drawing and carries the words «RAT FINK COLLECTION». With licensed collectables the packaging accounts for a considerable part of the value, because it almost always ends up in the bin — here it is.

Good. The paintwork is complete, no chips on figure or wave. Cable and socket are undamaged; whether the bulb still lights has not been tested — the socket takes standard small lamps. The box has storage marks at edges and corners but is complete.
