Highway 61 / DCP · 1:18 · Hurst Wheelstander
Item no. 050-053-019
The 1966 Plymouth Barracuda «Hemi Under Glass» in gold and black — the most famous wheelstander in drag racing history, 1:18 by Highway 61 / DCP.
In 1965 Hurst rebuilt a Barracuda and put the 426 Hemi behind the front seats, under the big rear window — hence the name. The weight over the rear axle lifted the front wheels off the line, and that is how it ran the quarter mile: on two wheels, the whole way down. It was never meant to win, only to entertain — and it became better known than most race cars.
Among collectors Highway 61 counts as the more precise address: finer engraving, real fabric and metal parts, correctly reproduced engine bays. The runs were small, and since the brand was discontinued they are markedly harder to find than Ertl.
Good collector condition, paint clean, all parts present. The model was displayed, not played with.
