Description

Oval bowl with a carved bamboo rim, lacquered deep blue and hand-pinstriped. At the centre sits the winged eyeball — the mark Kenny Howard, alias Von Dutch, invented in the fifties and which has hung over every kustom shop since. Bloodshot, bleeding, winged.

The work

The lines are pulled, not printed: clean, even, with the typical pinstriper's sweep that tapers out at the end. Beige and white over a blue fade, the eye applied in relief. Bottom right a small painted monogram.
