Rosewood Wall System with Leather Bench, 1960s

A corner-wrapping wall system in rosewood veneer — book-matched, so the grain runs across the panels like an open book. Set flush into the vertical joints is a perforated metal rail with brass-coloured slots; the shelf brackets hook into it. From the front you see none of it — the shelves appear to grow out of the wall, yet they can be repositioned. The unit comprises: · two legs of panelled wall (measured top edges 175 cm and 196 cm) · a bench with three black leather seat cushions and one continuous back cushion, seat height approx. 43 cm · several free-hung shelves, stepped on the right · a cabinet compartment with cream-white lacquered interior and white shelves · a drop-front compartment (writing desk / bar) with brass fittings The panels stand on their own feet and are not fixed to the building: the system can be dismantled and taken along. Condition: veneer intact throughout, leather used with patina, signs of use. Not a reproduction — solid edge lippings, grain carried across the joints, period fittings. On the wood: the figure matches rosewood (Dalbergia). Which species exactly cannot be determined without an expert opinion. If Rio rosewood: unproblematic within Switzerland for a piece of this age, but export requires CITES paperwork. Maker unsigned. Collection in person, dismantling on site.
