NEU
curved neck · open wing form · free-standing
Item no. 030-709-000
A swan with a widely curved neck and suggested wings, in brass. The neck forms an open arc, the body rests beneath it.
The swan lives by its neck: it stands free, carries nothing and is the most vulnerable point in casting. Here it is executed in one continuous arc, without a joint. The wings are laid in as contour only — no more is needed for the bird to be recognised.
The surface is brass and has gone lighter on the raised areas — that is how metal behaves when it is handled over years. Whether brass, bronze or brass-plated casting cannot be decided without testing; the weight suggests a solid cast.
Good. The neck is free of cracks or bending — the trickiest point in this form. Complete, stands securely.
