Directional gyro from the Swiss Air Force with its original inspection tag: «Kurskreisel, overhaul, 1½° wobble» — provenance doesn't get more honest than that.

What does it do?

Keeps the compass heading gyro-stable. A magnetic compass swings in turns and turbulence — the directional gyro shows the heading calmly and precisely, and is realigned to the compass at regular intervals.
