edition of 50 · hand-incised on the base · lifebuoy «61»
Item no. 080-628-000
A sea monster rising out of the wave, carrying a red-and-white lifebuoy marked 61 — as a ceramic mug. Hand-incised on the base: «KOOKIE TIKI · BELFAST» and 13/50.
Fifty pieces — no more were made of this design, and this is number 13. With tiki mugs from small workshops that is exactly the line between decoration and collectable: the big brands run editions in the thousands, while a workshop like Kookie Tiki in Belfast casts, glazes and numbers by hand. Once the edition is gone, it is gone.
The head sits on the rim, the scaled body winds around the vessel, and the wave foams at the foot as a base. The glaze is kept in beige and grey, the lifebuoy in strong red as the only accent. Inside, the mug is glazed pale and usable.
Very good. No cracks, no chips, the glaze continuous. The base is unglazed and shows the raw body — as it should. Clean inside, no deposits. Handwork means the glaze does not run evenly everywhere; small irregularities are part of the piece.
