Green ceramic vase with relief pattern

Description

A cylindrical vase with a slightly drawn-in shoulder, glazed throughout in deep green. The body carries two different relief zones: a fine waffle pattern above, a band of interlocking loops below.

The foot

Seen from below, the care in the making shows: the green glaze runs down into the foot ring and breaks off there, leaving the body as a pale ring. Small blossoms are impressed into the transition and have taken up the glaze to differing degrees — where it lies thicker they are almost filled in, at the edges they stand out clearly.

That is not accidental but the place where pottery reveals itself: anyone who finishes a foot like that expects somebody to turn the vase over.
