Description

The pocket atlas from the Justus Perthes house in Gotha — the small standard work that lay in every decent schoolbag for decades. Cloth covers with the art nouveau lettering «Taschen-Atlas» in red and blue, and inside the coloured map plates, densely set with place names.

What is inside

Map plates for every continent, plus town plans and inset maps. At the end the publisher's advertisement listing the rest of the Perthes programme — sea atlas, historical atlas, citizen's atlas, Atlas antiquus — which helps place the edition in time.

Condition

Antiquarian and it shows: covers rubbed, corners bumped, spine with a green cloth strip. Inside, the maps are complete and the colours still strong; paper toned with age. The edition and year of publication are not shown in the photographs.
