Art Nouveau oak buffet · two parts

A two-part oak buffet from the Art Nouveau period: a lower body with two doors and two drawers, topped by an upper section with an oval bevelled glass door, a fall front and side doors. Every panel is framed by a beaded moulding, and the hardware is the original Art Nouveau casting — curved back plates, with the matching keys included.

The cutlery drawer is lined in blue velvet, with compartments for knives, forks and spoons — original and complete. The second drawer runs empty and clean. Behind the doors the shelves sit on peg holes and can be moved in height; the hinges are adjusted, so the doors fall shut rather than catch.

Oak, warm golden brown, with the quiet figure that quarter-sawn oak gives. Back panel and interiors are left lighter. The piece has not been sanded down or refinished — what you see is the surface it has grown into.

Very good. Solid parts and veneer intact throughout, no open joints, no water ring on the top, glass without a crack. Drawers run, doors close, locks work. Signs of use as a well-kept piece of this age will have.
