Hand-carved · leather cord · not a casting
Item no. 080-120-163
A Hei Tiki in cream, hand-carved on a leather cord — not a resin casting.
The Hei Tiki is the best-known Māori ornament: a human figure with a tilted head, traditionally cut from pounamu, New Zealand nephrite. It was handed down over generations and held the mana of its previous owners.
It is the only carved item in this collection — all the others are resin castings from small runs. Hand work means every line was cut once, and there is no second one like it.
Good condition. The exact material carved has not been determined.
