Sphere opens · lighter insert · function untested
Item no. 030-370-000
A table lighter shaped as a globe: a brass sphere with engraved continents, turning in a yoke on a shaped foot. The sphere is split at the equator — opened up it holds the lighter insert with flint wheel and burner tube.
Brass, turned and assembled, with grown patina. The heavy foot holds the sphere steady, the hinge runs cleanly, and the sphere turns on its axis like a proper globe. Table lighters like this stood on smoking tables, desks and bar counters in the fifties and sixties — often paired with an ashtray and a cigarette holder.
Untested. The mechanism is complete and visible, but whether it lights has not been checked — lighters of this age practically always need a new flint, wick and fuel. Anyone meaning to use it should expect a service; anyone putting it on a shelf needs none.
Good, patina intact, hinge and yoke firm, no dents.
