Description

Original aircraft radome with pitot tube, consistent with the Northrop F-5E Tiger II. The black radome forms the aerodynamic nose in front of the radar antenna; the visible «DO NOT PAINT» marking is characteristic of a functional radome.

Function

The radome protects the radar antenna located behind it while allowing the radar's electromagnetic waves to pass through with minimal interference. Aircraft radomes are therefore made from non-metallic, radar-transparent materials or composites. The long pitot tube at the tip measures dynamic pressure used to determine airspeed.

Condition

Used condition with visible scratches, abrasion and surface wear on the radome. The pitot tube also shows clear wear and areas of paint loss. Condition and included components as shown in the photographs.
