The real car

The Hudson Hornet won three NASCAR titles in a row in the early fifties. The secret was «step-down» construction: the floor sat between the frame rails instead of on top, putting the centre of gravity lower than any rival. With a straight-six, Hudson beat the V8s of the Big Three — until the competition caught up on sheer power. Herb Thomas drove the car lettered «Fabulous Hudson Hornet» to two championships. A whole generation knows it from somewhere else entirely: Doc Hudson in «Cars» is this exact car — which is why this model is the first to disappear from collections like this one.

The series

Highway 61 issued the NASCAR Hudsons as a series with the original race numbers and drivers’ names. Anyone recreating a starting grid needs all of them.
