The oddity in the pile

Between the Bach, the Beethoven and the Czerny sits something else entirely: light music in the novelty style of the inter-war years, with titles like «Pepper and Salt», «Serenade in Blue», «Red Devil», «Gladys» and «Little Musical Box». The cover with its stylised grand piano and keyboard is thirties graphic design of the kind people frame today.

The address

Berlin W 30, Nürnberger Strasse 8 — the publisher traded under the composer's own name. Small houses like this vanished almost entirely with the war.
