Description

The 1969 Dodge Charger 500 in black, 1:18 by Ertl American Muscle.

The real car

The Charger 500 was not a trim package but a homologation exercise: for NASCAR Dodge needed a cleaner front end. The recessed grille was made flush and the rear window set flat instead of tucked into its alcove. Five hundred cars had to be built, hence the name. A year later the same exercise produced the Daytona with its enormous wing.

About the range

From the nineties on, Ertl «American Muscle» was the most widespread 1:18 range of US cars: cleanly proportioned, with opening doors, hood and trunk. Not the last word in detail, but solidly built and no longer available new.
