A tall, slender tiki column on a stepped base: covered throughout in a diamond pattern, a face with flaring wing shapes at the top, a ring of small figures at the foot. And — the decisive part — it is marked.

Bone Productions is the workshop of «Crazy Al» Evans, the Californian carver and sculptor who has been making tikis since 1990 and founded the company in 1992. He is now among the most sought-after carvers in the tiki world — his work stands from Hawaii to New York and his mugs are a collecting field of their own. A dated and numbered piece from 1996 comes from his early period, long before the tiki boom of the 2000s.

At an edition of 2500 this is not an individually carved unique piece but a numbered workshop series. The surface reads as wood; whether it is wood throughout or a wood-coloured cast cannot be settled from the object. The value lies in signature, number and date — not in a claim of uniqueness.
