Description

A pair of hands pressed together, fully modelled in warm brown: fingers long and slim, veins and tendons worked in, the sleeve folds running out into a base below.

The motif

The motif goes back to a drawing by Albrecht Dürer of 1508 — a study for an altarpiece that became more famous as an image in its own right than the altar ever was. It has been reproduced in countless materials since.
