Description

A small pewter figure: an astronaut in a space suit on a round base. On the back sits the pack with the life-support system, on the arm the US flag.

What stands out

For its size the figure is remarkably precise: you can make out the hoses on the pack, the joint rings at arms and legs, the mirrored visor on the helmet. The back is worked out just as carefully as the front — the pack with its boxes and valves takes up half the figure. It is hand-painted, in white and grey with a few dabs of colour.

Placing it

Neither signature nor maker’s mark. Figures like this were cast in pewter as collector’s models and painted individually — the finish is clearly above what one knows from toys.
