A small round metal badge, red: «WINTERNATIONALS 1964» across the field, with the white NHRA snowflake device and a dragster with its chute deployed.
What it is about
The Winternationals have been the NHRA season opener since 1961, run at Pomona, California — the first big meeting of the year, while the rest of the USA is still in winter. Hence the name and hence the snowflake in the device. The dragster shown with the open chute is the image of those years.
About the age
The badge says 1964. Whether it is a piece from that year or a later run cannot be proven: the back carries no maker’s mark, only the plain pin in the rolled metal rim. The wear fits an old piece but proves nothing.
About the size
There is no photograph with a tape measure for this badge. It is clearly smaller than a two-franc piece. I will measure it on request.

Condition
Used. Print complete and legible, colour strong. Fine scratches spread over the surface, small nicks at the rim. The pin is straight and closes.
