Polished aluminium · three legs · marked STARCK ALESSI
Item no. 030-415-000
The Juicy Salif by Philippe Starck for Alessi — one of the best-known design icons of the 20th century: polished cast aluminium, a ribbed body like a squid, three long splayed legs. One leg is marked STARCK ALESSI.
Starck is said to have designed it in 1990 on a paper napkin in a pizzeria on Capri while eating squid. Alessi produced it, and it became the most-discussed kitchen object there is: critics call it impractical, museums exhibit it, and Starck himself is said to have remarked that it is not there to squeeze lemons but to start conversations.
Cast aluminium, hand-polished, uncoated — as the original has been built since 1990. The ribs run cleanly and evenly, the legs stand firm.
Good, aluminium with the slight mottling usual on this object and fine use marks, no dents, all three legs straight.
The smaller version of this form is listed separately: Juicy Salif miniature.
