Brass globe on a wooden base · rotating aircraft model · fifties
Item no. 040-369-000
A promotional piece of the kind airlines gave to travel agents and good customers in the fifties: a brass globe on a turned wooden base, with a band reading «AIR FRANCE · RÉSEAU AÉRIEN MONDIAL» — the worldwide route network. On top, mounted to rotate, a model of the Lockheed Super Constellation.
The Super Constellation was the flagship of the fifties: four Wright radials, the unmistakable triple tail and the curved fuselage. Air France flew it on the long haul to North America, South America and the Far East. On this globe it circles the world — exactly the message being sold.
Good with age patina: brass warmly darkened, lettering fully legible, aircraft complete with all four engines and the triple tail, base unbroken.
